Tragedy struck on the Dallas North Tollway on a recent Saturday morning. A northbound vehicle veered into the southbound lane just after 4:30 a.m. A fatal accident occurred when the wrong-way vehicle struck another car.
The southbound vehicle, a Ford F-150 was operated by a 55-year-old man. It was struck head-on. A 27-year-old man was behind the wheel of the vehicle headed in the wrong direction. Sadly, both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation remains active
Investigators are still working to piece together evidence that will help them determine what caused the driver of the first car to move into the southbound lane while still heading north. It is not uncommon for such investigations to take weeks or even months to complete. It is also not uncommon for investigators to conclude that driver negligence was a causal factor in a fatal collision. Many incidents like this one involve distracted or intoxicated drivers.
If a person survives his or her injuries in a Texas collision and has evidence of negligence by another party, a personal injury claim may be filed in civil court. When someone is killed, an immediate family member may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. In either case, it is helpful to seek guidance and support from an experienced attorney because this type of litigation is complicated and depends on an ability to focus on the accident details and the injuries or death that resulted.
