3 things NOT to do after a Texas car accident

On Behalf of | Jun 20, 2023 | Car Accidents

The impact of two or more vehicles colliding on a Texas roadway often has devastating results. There’s a lot of advice online and elsewhere about what someone should do after being involved in a collision. But after a car accident, it is just as important to know what not to do, which is the focus of this post.

No two traffic incidents are the same. Even so, there are certain issues that are common across the board, such as the importance of calling 911 after an accident or seeking medical attention. Knowing what not to do can help a person who has been involved in an accident avoid legal problems, especially if he or she decides to file a personal injury claim in civil court.

Do not disregard injuries or decline medical attention

Some people decline medical attention following a motor vehicle collision because they think their injuries are minor. This is a mistake, for several reasons. First, not all injuries are immediately apparent; some minor injuries can quickly worsen without proper medical treatment. Also, an emergency room visit documents the event and any injuries diagnosed at the time, which would be helpful information if a claim is later filed against another driver.

Do not admit fault

The only communication with others who may have been involved in a Texas motor vehicle collision is to exchange contact and insurance information. Admitting any type of fault can backfire, especially if an injury claim is later filed in civil court. It is also never a good idea to confront anyone else who was involved in an accident. If legal complications arise, it is best to consult with an attorney before taking any further action.
